We all want less cables and more user-friendly gadgets that are compatible with other products. Enter the Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth is the name of a wireless technology to replace cables and connect devices through the air. It uses radio frequencies to transmit information over short distances of up to 10 meters.

How: When two devices talk over Bluetooth they first have to be paired. To recognize each others existence basically. This is normally an easy set up procedure.

Where: The Bluetooth technology is popular in desktop and laptop computers, PDAs, digital cameras, scanners, cellular phones and printers. Most common is the Bluetooth headset that connects you mobile phone to your headset without cables.

Other use: Bluetooth is also used to reach mobile phones with information at events and conferences.  Information will be send out to the nearby mobile phones that have Bluetooth turned on.

Bluetooth can also be used for random networking or dating. “Toothing” where strangers meet up for sex via Bluetooth in public places was however a hoax created in 2004. However some claim that toothing has been going on since the hoax introduced the concept.

The blue oval with the two triangles that kind of looks like someone camping is the well known sign for Bluetooth. You will see this on your devices when the Bluetooth is on.
